VAM : Goal 2

September 14th, 2007

I guess I should finish my thought on the Real Life Visual Arts Team. The second goal of the VAM is to “Help educate others about art and how it can be used as a form of worship.”

This is more like a life long pursuit rather than something we can accomplish over a weekend I have a couple concrete ideas to help.

1. We should be in conversation with others often. Not necessarily always about art and beauty but when you see something that you find beautiful don’t keep it to yourself tell someone. Tell them why you find it beautiful and try and engage them in a way that they will respond with a similar example. I think people see moving beauty all the time but they don’t take the time to let it sink in and process what they’ve seen.

2. This blog (or your own blog if you have one). This is a place we can share ideas of beauty and art with the whole world (I don’t have that big of readership) but the potential is there.

3. Arts College. This next year I would like to hold the first ever Real Life Arts College. I don’t know exactly how it will be organized but it would be great to have more of a formal educational experience for those that are interested. In that forum we could talk about art history, painting, drawing, poetry, sculpture, photography and what ever art forms you may be able to teach. I envision some lecture times but mostly hands on times.

Arts College=yes. Do it. That would be fantastic! I took art classes every year in high school, then got distracted by music in college and didn’t have as much “hands on” art. I’ve realized that I’ve missed it. I don’t have one area that I specialize in, but if you want help with anything planning-wise let me know. I want to get involved somehow, and that sounds like something that would be awesome to participate in.
